I Confess
Rock Star Supernova - Lukas Rossi Truly Brought The RAWK!
(September 14, 2006)
Well.... Well... Well... It has been quite the summer here at Rock Star Go Home!
To start, I really have to admit two things about the finale of Rock Star: Supernova, the Mark Burnett reality rockumentary which last night crowned Canadian-born, Lukas Rossi, as the new frontman of the band currently named Supernova but soon to be named something else. (Oh, you didn't know about that? Click Here)
Okay. Back to the two things I have to admit.
First, yesterday in typical ReX fashion I predicted that Toby would win Rock Star Supernova due to his marketability.
I thought The EVS-master would appeal to a much broader demographic and would thus help Supernova sell more of.... everything.
How disgusting of me, right? I went completely against my gut!
Don't ya hate when that happens? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
For, as most of you know, I was on the Lukas-train from day one of this gig.
Actually, I was pulling for Lukas even before day one when I met Lukas at the Rock Star Mansion three weeks before Rock Star started shooting.
That said, I penned numerous articles about how Lukas Would Be Tattoo'd The Supernova Frontmain all for nought. I went capitalistic. I sold out. I am such a piece of shit.
FUCK! I HATE BEING WRONG!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Okay, now that I have have admitted I was wrong.... Here comes my second confession....
Tommy, Gilby and Jason got it right! Very right!
How do I know?
I woke up this morning and found myself humming "Be Yourself".
With that said, I am really looking forward to hearing the new Supernova tracks recorded. I'm sure Butch Walker will take those songs and bring them way, way up to snuff. Know what I mean?
Now.... Now... Now... What's next?
I know... Don't get all sentimental on ReX!
Rock Star is over!
"What am I going to do with my life on Tuesday and Wednesday night?" you are thinking to yourself... "Hmpfh! Hmpfh! Hmpfh!" you cry yourself to bed.
If I was you... I'd get some Rock Star Tour tickets. I believe that show is going to be epic with Supernova (or whatever they are called by then), Dilana, the House Band and, of course, Navarro's new band, The Panic Channel.

ReX Picks Toby... Here'$$$$$$ Why!
The winner of Rockstar Supernova will be....
(September 13, 2006)
Here it is... The Finale of Rockstar: Supernova...
And, as I wrote yesterday, there is a lot riding on tonight.
According to David Goffin, Rock Star Supernova Excecutive Producer, over $60-70 million have been invested in this project..... All to find one lead singer.
What does that mean? It means "payback". That's right. Whoever wins tonight better be able to sell cds, sell tickets, sell merch, SELL, SELL, SELL, SELL!!!
We are left with four talented singers - Magni, Dilana, Lukas and Toby - to decide from.
But, the question is, "Who is the most marketable?"
Here's the play by play:
Ready?
1. Magni - Great talent. Plus, I dig his baldness. But, he fails the market-ability test big time. While he is great and fun to watch, Magni does not 'bring the house down' or 'bring the house up'. His emotions are his own and he doesn't share enough of himself to generate a true connection with the audience. Sorry Magni.
2. Dilana - Wonderful story. Great drama. Excellent for television reality shows.
But, Dilana... For all of her wonderful attributes will NOT get the Supernova nod. Bottomline, Dilana can't sell effectively to the men of this world. Think I'm kidding? Not once over the past 11 weeks has any man said to me, "Damn dude! Dilana Rocks!" Instead, they have said, "Dilana is great but not for Supernova!" I know this will cause great controversy with all the Dilana fans out there but...
Sorry.... Life's a bitch. Dilana will not win.
3. Lukas - My favorite story of Rock Star Supernova. For me, the best choice for Tommy, Gilby and Jason. The guy has it all. If you are going to disagree with me, by yapping about his voice, go ahead. It's a free country.... But, just know that being a true 'rock star' is above and beyond a perfect voice. It's about the intangibles.
Lukas has the will to abandon himself in music. Most of the other singers do not. What you see is what you get with Lukas. The bonus is that you actually get a lot more... Including entertainment, entertainment, entertainment. Lukas keeps you in the moment and Lukas keeps you guessing, "What is he going to do next?"
Still, Lukas won't win. His marketability factor is like a six on a scale of ten. Perhaps as a solo artist he could break through but not in a band like Supernova.
4. Ding! Ding! Ding! Toby is our winner. That's right. This guy came on very strong at the end of Rock Star Supernova. He's got it all for this band. The looks, the style, the voice and a willingness to be ego-less amongst the ego-full. That's huge.
Toby can, and will, bring Supernova to the masses. The international masses.
Toby can, and will, cross segment the demographic barriers that constrain Supernova in terms of age and sex.
Mark my words... Toby is the new lead singer of Supernova.

Alright folks. It's that time for ReX to look into his crystal ball.
Hmmmmm. Whoaaaaaah. Interesting.... There's lots of images in my crystal ball. I see Dilana. I see Toby. I see Magni. And, I see Lukas.
But as we know... There can only be one lead singer for Supernova, the new rockband to finally complete its line-up tomorrow night as Rock Star Supernova comes to a close.
The crystal ball is murky.... There's lots of confusion.
Perhaps the confusion, however, is in me.
I know who I want to win. The question is WHO WILL WIN?
If you are an RSGH groupie, you know that I'm good at picking the losers of Rock Star.
But, you may not know that I'm also batting 100% when it comes to picking the winners. (Last year, JD Fortune was my darkhorse starting from week one of Rock Star: INXS.)
That said, there is only one factor that will determine the winner of Rock Star Supernova.
That factor is... Money.
Don't get all sad on me.
Don't call me a capitalistic pig.
Don't call me anything but a sexy, middle-aged, bald head rocker!
Newsflash for ya.... We live in a world that is nothing less than a marketing orgy. In life and reality tv, decisions are made by what will sell the most and who will sell it.
Am I wrong?
Do you not notice the endless Verizon, SLS and Honda promotions that bombard you during Rock Star Supernova.
Again, it's all about the return-on-investment.
That said, the winner will be....
STAY TUNED - PART II WILL BE POSTED TOMORROW!
Exclusive Interview With Storm Large From Rock Star: Supernova
(By Bald ReX, September 7, 2006)
I will be the first to admit it... I was not a Storm Large at the beginning of Rock Star Supernova.
I am a man. So... Yes, I was in admiration of her ass-ets. But, I just didn't get why soooo many people were going gah-gah over the Portland-native and The Balls frontman.
Then... About five weeks into Mark Burnett's reality rockumentary, Rock Star Supernova, I started to get Storm Large. I think it was after her performance of "Changes" that I made a public apology to the Storm fans out there. I could feel the momentum building for the larger-than-life singer.
For me, the momentum peaked this past week as Storm lit up Studio 36 on the CBS lot with an original, "Lady Like", that showed exactly who and what Storm Large was all about.
Needless to say, I dug it.
Athough I had Storm a lock for the final four, Tommy, Jason and Gilby chose otherwise. Storm was eliminated from Rock Star Supernova last night as Magni, Dilana, Toby and Lukas moved on to the finale week.
That said, I was fired up to interview Storm Larget earlier today and ask her the questions you, the Rock Star Go Home community, posted and emailed to me. So, without further ado, I bring you Storm Large.
ReX: Hey Storm. How goes it?
Storm Large: It's going great man. How you doing?
ReX: Great? Hmmm. Tell me why you are 'Great'. I would think you might be a little bummed.
Storm Large: Really?
ReX: Yah.
Storm Large: No man. I mean... Yes, I wanted to win the gig but I have to tell you that I gave it my all. I put out 1000% and I know I did everything I could. Those guys are in a tough spot, looking for their singer. It's not easy. It's personal. It's like searching for your wife or husband. Ya know?
I made it to the final five... That's pretty great. And, look who is left standing. There is some amazing talent on that show. Right now, it's not about who's the best singer, the best looking, the best this or that... It's now up to Supernova to figure out what's right... what's best.... for them.
But, I put it all out there man. I leave this experience with my head high.
ReX: Right on! Very evolved of you.
Storm Large: Thanks.
ReX: But, I gotta ask....
Storm Large: Yah.
ReX: Why don't you think you're in the final four? Your fan base is huge!
Storm Large: It's a chemistry thing. Those guys - Tommy, Jason, Gilby are looking for a vibe that works best for them. I wasn't that vibe. I'm cool with that. They want a certain representation that I am not. But, it didn't stop me from growing personally during the experience.
I learned a ton about myself. I learned different levels of patience, tolerance.... I always knew I was strong physically but to survive that stressful experience with my sanity is wonderful.
ReX: Huh. Let's talk about growth. Gilby kind of dinged you a little bit for not growing on the show. What did you make of that?
Storm Large: Honestly, I didn't agree with what Gilby said. But, I think he was trying to say something besides the words that exited his mouth. I think Gilby was trying to say that he wanted to see Storm Large be a little more Supernova than Storm Large. I think he was looking for something that I wasn't.
These guys had very, very high expectations for me. I'm an independent, professional singer of 15 years. In the end, all I could really be was myself. It's a great feeling and understanding to leave the show with.
ReX: Cool thought. Hey.... Is there anything you would change about the past 11 weeks?
Storm Large: Nah man. I was just always in the moment on the show. I accomplished a lot during the show. I feel like I hit a homerun... Plus, there was nothing but love on that show... I loved them all... the cast... the crew... they are all stuck with me from here on out.
ReX: You mentioned the stress of the show earlier. What did you mean by that?
Storm Large: Well. I've been separated from my family for a long time. It's hard to deal with the isolation from them - to know what's going in their lives, are they okay, am i doing okay, etc.
It was pretty frustrating. It's great reconnecting with them now that it's over. I'm gonna do press for a few days in L.A., hang out with some friends, and then head back to Portland.
ReX: What about the Rock Star Supernova Tour? Are you going to be on it?
Storm Large: No official word on that yet but I'd love to be on it.
ReX: Tell me about performing your original, "Lady Like" in front of 8 million people on Tuesday night.
Storm Large: Ha-Hahhhhhhh.... That was the single best night of my life. Not to mention that Dave Navarro played with me on "Suffragette City".
I kid you not... I pee'd on myself... just a little... when I learned that Dave and I would be jamming together. Seriously, it was just a little bit of pee [Laughing].
ReX: Nice! [Laughing].... So... Who's gonna win Rock Star Supernova next week?
Storm Large: Although Toby is coming on strong right now, I think it's going to be Lukas.
Lukas just has the emotional edge... The peaks and valley of emotion come through Lukas. Plus, he's got the flamboyance and Lukas can be all-encompassing. Toby is a tad too 'Rah-Rah' for me.
ReX: Cool. Thanks Storm. Best of luck with everything. This interview is over.
Storm Large: Nah man, thanks to you.
Supernova Contestant, Dilana, Needed Humble Pie 3 Weeks Ago
(By Bald ReX, September 6, 2006)
Ah yah, yah!
If there is one thing we all know about reality television... The cocky ones almost always go home. Just this week, Will Kirby, from Big Brother All Stars got the boot only hours after proclaiming, "I'm totally safe this week."
If only Dilana knew that facet of reality t.v. Now, however, Dilana is just a faded memory from the confident, enchanting and colorful singer that was in the pole position to claim the title of Supernova's Lead Singer.
It's a sad story but....
Hmfph! Hmpfh! Hmpfh!
You won't see Ole ReX shedding a tear for Dilana.
Why?
Let's think about it....
Three weeks ago it was all four feet and eleven inches of Dilana that turned to Magni and said, "My fans have been with me since day one."
Remember?
First off... Her fans? What fans? She's a freaking singer on a reality television show. You don't have fans when you're on a reality tv show... You have admirers. I don't know about you but it takes me time to become a hard core fan of a band, let alone, a singer of cover songs.
Speaking of covers versus original songs...
What was that lameass song Dillana sang last night? Super-shit? Super-silly? Super-crappy?
Yah. I'm speaking out. Enough of the nice ReXy of the past two weeks. I'm tired of that shit. Dilana has really got to me. I'm over her in a bigggggggggggggggggg way.
Continuing my rant:
Oooooh. Dilanahhhhhh. She's so hurt she can't walk to the stool to sing her songs.... Yet...
When it comes time to do her original, Dilana jumps up and starts rocking-out on her torn calf muscle? Again. Peeee-Ewwww. Smellls awfully fishy... Smellllls awfully like a strategic move towards, towards, towards..... SYMPATHY!
Don't tell me you didn't feel a sympathy string tug in your heart when lil' Dilana battled her physical ailment in the name of RAWWWWCK.
Oh Please!!! I Ain't Buying That Dilana Sob Story!!!
Enough... Send that chick home!
