So far, so ...not bad?

After posting that giant blurb into mudhuney's comments area, decided to fire it into my own area :)

Ive been a huge music fan since i was a toddler, always wanted to be A&R guy as a dream, ended up being a lighting tech before settling into 3d animation.

First few shows, I didn’t even think seeing 14 out of the 16 perform would be entertaining, it seemed they cast the singers, as opposed to auditioning them. I’m not sure why several of them even made it this far, in terms of style, they just didnt compare! Things are getting better though, and a few (Like Zayda's REM song and Josh's Sublime) have surprised me.

I still think Lukas is the best fit, and after seeing the writing abilities (Well, one day of them anyways), I still think so. If Lukas can take the advice of several people and try different things with his voice, he can and probably will win.

BTW, I thought the songwriter of the night was actually Josh, he really smoked that song! And with the Sublime track (which he killed) from before, his stock has gone up for sure.

Some quick opinions of the remaining singers:

-Storm is just too... Stormy? She's great but deserves her own band and style.

-Toby is just too... blond or something, he just doesn’t sell the 'tude to me, seems way too 'surfer', and not enough 'backstreet brawler' for these guys... He should have left the blond highlights back in Oz. His voice is 100% like Ed from the band Live and why he keeps skipping singing a LIVE song, I’m not sure.

-Ryan, good singer, reminds me of Mig, which for this year, is a bad thing.

-Jill, great pipes, kinda wonky 'tude. Totally wrong for this band.

-Patricia, good singer, but her fanbase spamming msg boards annoys me, she’s not right for these guys either.

-Zayda is not as bad as everyone thinks, her performance of 'Everybody hurts' was the best performance so far this year, she has a bjork/Sinead thing going buuuut totally wrong for this band.

-Magni seems like a great guy but I’m just not seeing him leading these guys...

-Dilana... My sweet Dilana... Has been a #1 or #2 for me since the start but after seeing her vocal performance from last week (Was kinda weak sauce, but the stage presence was huge), I’m getting that Jordis Part Deux feeling from her...

I’ve dug around and just aint impressed with what she has put out as a solo artist in the past. Seeing the cheeseball lyrics she cooked up was a little painful, although the melodies seemed pretty decent.

I guess the reality here folks is that Gilby is no Slash, and since Jason and Tommy’s input into the song's melodies and writing is pretty limited, Supernova is going to need a hell of a writer/vocalist to bring this (So far) flaccid material to life.

I actually did hear of Lukas's old band Cleavage when they had 1min of fame a few years ago and recognized him when they showed the "road to Rockstar" TV special in Canada and even then, I predicted him the winner (Even before seeing the yanks and worldwide contestants...)

Since then I found a few videos on Youtube, this one stood out as a great example of his vocal, melodic and writing abilities:

Itll come down to Dilana and Lukas, possibly Storm or a wild card like Toby or Josh/Pike (!) as #3. At that point, anybody can fall apart but like others have said, these guys aren’t stupid, they aren’t getting younger and after this show cost into Burnett into the 70 million dollar range, I bet they have done their homework on all these cats...
