1. Ryan: Wow! This guy is really impressing me. Each week he just seems to get better and better. His voice is so strong, and he has such a sexy, mysterious way about him. I've always loved the song "In the Air Tonight", and wasn't sure he could do it justice, but he blew me away! LOVED his version! I still don't know if Ryan is really the fit for the Supernova band, but out of all the remaining rockers, he's the one I'd most likely want to buy an album from if he were to go solo.
2. Lukas: Wow, how shocked am I that I, the most diehard NON-Lucas fan, have rated Lukas 2nd this week!!!! For some reason I really enjoyed his performance this week. I started off watching him thinking "He's just going to be average for me, just like he always is" but I found myself being pulled in by his performance of "Hero". I don't know if it was just because I really like that song, or if maybe I'm finally getting past the way he looks and seeing through to the real talent that others seem to have already seen in him. For the first time I thought to myself "Yep, he's gonna win this thing". I think it was something about him smiling so much throughout the song. When he smiles really big, he's not such a strange looking fellow as I originally thought. LOL His smile lights up his face. He should smile more often. He should stop wearing his hair in such strange styles and wearing so much make-up. He doesn't need to do all that to get attention. (Of course, that's just my own personal opinion. Others may actually LIKE his make-up and strange hair, but it's a big turn-off for me, and is one of the things that made me immediately think I wasn't going to like him.) I strongly feel that he will be the winner in the end, but even though I put him 2nd this week, he still is nowhere near one of my over-all favorites on this show. But, kudos to him for winning me over this time.
3. Toby: It was easy for me to rate my #1 and #2 people this time, but numbers 3, 4, 5, and 6 were all about the same for me, so it was hard for me to place them in any sort of order. But, I finally went with Toby as 3rd, because when I try to go back in my mind and remember each performance (out of my #3,4, 5 and 6 people) his is the one that stands out the most in my mind. The only thing I didn't like was the way his pants were about to fall off his butt. I wanted to just go over and pull them up for him. LOL It was really getting on my nerves watching them slip ever further southward. LOL
4. Dilana: I wasn't as blown away with her performance as the band seemed to be. I thought she did real good with the chorus, but I thought she didn't sound that great with the rest of the song. I thought her low register was a little too low and didn't sound as good as it could have. I love the song "Cats in the Cradle", but her version just wasn't as good as the original, in my opinion.
5. Magni: He did okay, but the song he sang "Star Man" was not familiar to me. I don't recall ever hearing it. I wasn't impressed with the song, but I felt he did okay with it anyway.
6. Zayra: Okay, I thought her original song that she played was really beautiful, and I'm glad she got the chance to showcase her particular talent so that someone watching can snap her right up and maybe she can become a huge star doing THAT type of music. But, what I don't get is, knowing that THIS is the type of music she is best at, why in the heck did she try out for a rock'n roll band? I'm thinking it's because she knew she wouldn't get the gig, but she knew the exposure would help her get some OTHER gig. If so, more power to her. She definitely showed some pipes tonight, but what she did didn't show me at all that she could pull off being the lead singer in a rock band. Her style is just not right for this genre of music.
7. Storm: I love Storm, so I hate that I had to rate her this low this week. But, I really did not like her version of "I Will Survive". She tried to change it TOO much, and it just came off as silly and all over the place. I'm hoping she gets a better song next week.
8. Patrice: Patrice just hasn't been doing anything to blow me away the past few weeks, and tonight was no exception. I never liked that song "Message in a Bottle", so maybe that had something to do with it. I just found her performance to be rather bland. In my opinion, she should be the one to go next.
Of the initial bottom 3 (Patrice, Toby & Zayra) I was only shocked about Toby being there. In my opinion, just based on this week's performance, it should be Storm in the bottom 3 with the other 2 girls.
Just read some of your thoughts on the show. I particularly enjoyed the posts from FoshyBoo & groovychic. Love hearing what others think of the performers. I'm going to give my thoughts again, even though last week when I posted my thoughts I got responses such as "if you rate THIS performer the same as THAT performer, then you have no business reviewing music and you need to have your hearing checked". C'mon guys! I come here to have fun and see what others think, even if they don't think the same as me. I would never call someone names or bad mouth them just because they like someone I don't like, or vice versa. So, please give me the same respect. If you disagree with me, simply say "I disagree" then tell me why you like or dislike the person. But, there's no need for bashing me and calling me names just because I have a different opinion than you. There is no right or wrong here. EVERY person in the world has the right to review music. I'd like to know what makes one person more qualified than another? That's just silly. Each person likes what they like. You listen to it and you decide if you liked it or not. It has nothing to do with whether you've taken music classes or consider yourself an expert. It's not just going to be "experts in audio sound" who will buy the albums of the winner. Even people who can't hold a note have a right to say who they like. Please refrain from coming on here and telling others that they have no business voicing their opinion, simply because they don't agree with YOUR particular opinion. It's okay for us to think differently! When you bash someone for thinking differently than you, I feel that that only shows a lack of respect for yourself and your own views. But, that's just me. Oh, well, back to my opinions from the show. I'll get over my "hurt feelings" from last week. I was thinking about not posting this week, because I didn't want people trashing me for my views again, but then I decided to rise above and just do it anyway. LOL After reading FoshyBoo and groovychic's fun reviews, it made me want to write again. Thanks guys!
Okay, here are my thoughts...
Dilana...I liked her performance quite a bit. Typical Dilana. She usually doesn't disappoint me.
Jill...I just have not liked her much from the very beginning, and she didn't do much to impress me this week either.
Ryan...I really liked his performance this time. At first I thought it was a little odd, him coming out in the hood and all, but then I realized how different it was from his beautiful ballad of last week, and I now see that he has a lot of versatility. I think he, more than most of the others, is showing the band how much he can change and adapt from week to week. I don't find myself getting bored with him, which is a good thing. He's grown on me the most out of all the ones I didn't think I liked in the beginning. I'm starting to like him quite a bit.
Storm...I always like her, but "We are the Champions" is one of those songs that has just been done to death, and so when I heard that's what she was singing, I already figured I wasn't going to be blown away. She did good with it, but it's just the song that I don't care for so much.
Zayra...Well, I am definitely not a Zayra fan, but I must admit that this week was the first week I actually found something to like in her performance. I still hated her outfit (ugghhhh, that skin-tight thing was hideous!) but I felt that her actual performance this time was her best yet. Still not top 3 material, for me, but I felt she did good enough to not be in the bottom 3. I hate to even say that, because last week I wanted her in the bottom 3 so bad, and was disappointed that she wasn't there. But, if I'm honest with myself this week, I don't feel she belongs there this time.
Josh...Some weeks I like him, some weeks I don't. This week he just kinda bored me. I didn't find his performance very memorable.
Magni...I was trying to fix dinner and missed some of Magni's performance. I only saw the ending part and I didn't find it to be one of his best, but not one of his worst either. Just average. Hope I didn't miss anything spectacular in the beginning part.
Patrice...She's okay, but I just don't see her as the lead singer of this type of band.
Lukas...Still don't care for him much, but he wasn't horrible. I just don't see myself ever becoming a Lukas fan.
Toby...I enjoyed his performance this week. The megaphone thing was a little embarassing (for him), I thought, but the rest of it, I felt he stepped it up and showed them that he can rock when he wants to. I doubt he'll win this thing. He's just not the right fit for this type of band. But, I still enjoy watching him each week and hope he stays around for awhile.
My top 3 this week?
Dilana, Ryan & Toby (in no particular order)
My bottom 3?
Personally I would say Josh, Lukas & Jill, but I doubt if Lukas will be in the bottom 3, so I'll replace him with Patrice in my ratings for this week. And, I figure of those 3, that Jill should be the one to be sent packing.
Okay, I just finished watching week 5 of Rock Star: Supernova. If you haven't seen it yet, and don't want anything spoiled, then stop reading this email right now and come back to it later...
I rated them all on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being best. I didn't give anyone a 10, 9 or 8 this week. My highest rating was a 7. I gave 3 of them a 7...
Josh, Dilana & Ryan
I'm not really a fan of reggae style music, but for some reason Josh's song really pulled me in and got my attention. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I was surprised that Josh got into my top 3 this week, because in the past he's not been real high up on my list. Dilana just rocked out in her usual style and was really great. And, Tommy was right when he said to Ryan "Dude, that song is so gonna get you laid!" Even though Tommy is very crude with some of his comments....LOL....I must admit that as Ryan was singing at the piano, I was thinking "Hmmm...I never noticed before that he's actually kinda hot." LOL So, maybe there's some truth in what Tommy said. I thought Ryan came across as very intense and sexy this week. Definitely top 3!
Now, my next highest rating was a 6. I gave two people a 6...
Toby & Storm
I wasn't super impressed with either of their performances this week, but since I like them both so much, I probably rated them higher than I would have if I didn't like them to start with.
I gave a rating of "5" to three people...
Magni, Lukas & Dana
None of them really got my attention this time. Lukas was getting on my nerves the way he kept turning his back to the camera so much. And, Dana, bless her heart, she really tries. I like her so much as a person, and I hope she stays in a lot longer, but I just don't see her as ever getting strong enough to front this band.
My bottom 3 received ratings of 4 (two of them) and 3 (one of them). I felt Patrice and Jill were really bad, and only gave them 4's. But, Zayra was even worse, and I only gave her a 3. I don't think I've rated anyone that low yet this season. I think 4 was as low as I'd gone on my ratings before tonight. But, Zayra definitely deserved a 3! I just thought she was a freak show. I don't know why they said they are keeping her around to see what she'll do next, because nothing she ever does is impressive. I'm kinda getting sick of them keeping her around.
I wasn't blown away by most of tonight's performances. I thought most of them picked bad songs. My favorite performance was Toby's. I really thought he picked bad at first, when I heard he was singing Billy Idol's "White Wedding", but when it was all said and done, I actually ended up liking it. My 2nd favorite performance was Ryan with his version of "I Alone". I thought he did a pretty good job with that one. Those 2 were definitely the two stand-outs for me this time. Coming in tied at 3rd were Dana, Magni, Dilana and Storm. None of those 4 just blew me away, but they did pretty good.
I thought Lukas, Patrice, Jill, Phil and Josh were all just average. The only one I just really hated was Zayra's performance of "Call Me". Did not enjoy that one at all! I really hope Zayra goes this time. I just really don't see any potential in her.
Well, tonight I felt that there were two stand-out performances....and they were by:
Storm & Dilana
I felt that those 2 outshown all the others and just sorta stood out on their own. Last week I didn't like Dilana's performance, but I loved her the 1st week, and this time I loved her again. She's wild and crazy, and has a look that is nowhere near how I would choose to look and if my daughter came home looking like that I'd freak out! LOL But, I have to admit she's unique and has talent and something makes me like her, even if she is totally different than myself or anyone that surrounds me in my life. She has magnetism and draws me into her performances.
And, Storm I have just loved since day 1. I haven't seen her do anything yet that I didn't like. The only thing about her performance this time that I didn't care for was that it seemed like she was forcing herself to look "rock-starrish" by purposefully bugging her eyes out and trying to look wild and mean. I would prefer she just get up there and sing her heart out and not try so hard to look tough.
I couldn't really pick a 3rd place person this time. There were 4 people (Patrice, Ryan, Phil & Magni) that I felt were good enough to come in 3rd on my list, but I just couldn't narrow it down to just one of them, so I guess they all 4 tie for 3rd. Each one of these people I like, but there is also something I DON'T like about each of them, which is just enough to keep them from being number one for me each week. Patrice comes across as a bit arrogant to me, Ryan is a little too shy acting and doesn't seem to have much energy on stage, but I find myself liking him more and more each week. Phil sings so well, but I just don't enjoy WATCHING him sing. If I close my eyes and just listen, I really love his voice. And, Magni is another one that seems to be singing well, but I don't like looking at him so much. I hated those big giant sunglasses he was wearing tonight. He looked like a big bug-eyed fly up there!
Next on my list would be Jill, Dana & Toby. They were all just "so-so" this week. I had high hopes for Toby, but in all honesty, he didn't impress me that much this time. These 3 just barely stayed out of my bottom 3.
Finally, there were 4 who fell at the bottom of my ratings...Josh, Lukas, Zayra & Jenny. I know that Lukas will NOT be in the bottom 3, because there are too many fans out there for him, but I still do not like him at all. So, for me personally, I would have him in my bottom 3. But, since I think he's the most likely to NOT be put in the bottom 3 by everyone else, then I will pick Josh, Zayra & Jenny as my personal bottom 3 this week. I really hope Zayra goes home, because I really don't like listening to her at all. I couldn't believe the band liked her song tonight. She was HORRIBLE at first! I couldn't even hear her. She was so bad at first that my teenage daughter didn't even know what song she was singing. When she got to the chorus, my daughter goes "Oh, she's singing THAT song! I couldn't even tell!"
Okay, does anyone else see the resemblance between Lukas and the actor Clint Howard (Ron Howard's brother)? Here's a picture of Clint. You be the judge. Put a little eye make-up on Clint and he could pass for his long-lost father!
