Well the 2007 season of American Idol is coming to an end and I must say overall it has been a disappointing one. This is the first time in all the years I have watched where I feel no connection to the top 2 finalists and did not vote. I also did not feel the excitement I have in prior years watching this last show before the winner is crowned. I can only say I look forward to getting the music of Melinda Doolittle, Lakisha Jones and Chris Sligh. The others are a big maybe and of course Sanjaya is a definite "No!".
Well on to the show. We begin with a dramatic entrance by Ryan to the Kodak Theatre where a huge crowd is shown. He gives his ya-ya speech how great this season was and then introduces the judges. He expands on this by talking to Paula about breaking her nose the prior evening. She does look high on pain-killers but tries to explain the mishap with her dog Tulip. However Ryan interrupts by saying "So the bitch is okay?". This did not set well with the people over at the American Idol board at all. Oh well, they will get over it, I'm sure.
Next we see snippets of the journey that Blake and Jordin took getting to the American Idol stage all the way from Seattle. It was a nice filler but had to giggle when Ryan mentioned how consistent both have been. Next up is the coin toss to see who goes first and Blake ever the gentleman offers it Jordin since he wins the toss. She refuses so now we get to our actual performances.
Blake:
1st Song - You Give Love A Bad Name - I honestly think he should have done a song we had not heard before but once again he does great with the beat-boxing but vocally I thought it was better the first time we had heard it. The judges liked it but were not as enthused as the first time they had heard it.
2nd Song: She Will Be Loved - Here is a different song we have not heard by Maroon 5 and Blake shows he is definitely not as good as Adam Levine on this one. I think he had a few pitch problems but overall it was nicely done if not a stellar performance. For some reason the judges did not mention any pitch problems but Simon said it best "good and safe".
3rd Song: This Is My Now - First off I am not crazy about this song and I also feel Blake was treated unfairly having to sing it. Doing ballads is not his strength and he did not look comfortable at all. He started out well but lost it about halfway through. As mentioned by Simon it was odd and this may have cost him the title.
Jordin:
1st Song: Fighter - I love this song by Christina Aquilera but Jordin showed how inexperienced she is by a passable version that was not great. She does have the big voice and someday with the right training I think she will be great but overall I thought this was just a karaoke performance (God, I sound like Simon).
2nd Song: A Broken Wing - I have said many times I do not care for country music however Jordin did fairly well on this one. My only complaint would be that the band seemed to be drowning her out in the beginning of the song and I could not understand what she was saying. Once she hit the high notes she sounded quite good.
3rd Song: This Is My Now - I was surprised to see that both contestants sang the same song and once again I am not wild about it with a difference however. Jordin brought real emotion to the song and I honestly think she could have a hit with it however I would not buy it. This song was also unfair to Blake I feel as Jordin does so well with the ballads.
Last but not least we get a performance by Chris Daughtry who still has that same sourpuss look on his face however went overboard with the eye make-up. I have to say I absolutely hate this song and am so sick of hearing it.
Who do I think will win? Jordin
Will either have longevity in the business after their first cds only time will tell.
Well, that is a rap and I welcome any comments you may have.
