Not sure anyone will bother to come on to read this but have to give my rants for this lousy finale.
Ryan comes out and tells us that we have 160 million viewers watching this show plus the over 3000 that are in the Kodak Theatre. As the camera pans the audience you can see several celebrities and also past idols.
Next intro to the judges who are wearing their finest for this last show.
Jordin and Blake start off the evening sing a duet of "I Saw Her Standing There". Nice duet but my main concentration was on how big Jordin looks compared to Blake.
Gwen Stefani sings from her tour in L.A. in one of the goofiest outfits I have ever seen. I do admire this woman but this song sucked the big one in my opinion.
Kelly Clarkson is up next looking like she is carrying extra poundage. She sings her latest song "Never Again" and gives it a rockers edge but frankly to me it sounded like she was just screaming the lyrics. Hopefully it sounds better on her cd cause I do like her as an artist.
Now we get to the height of ridiculous with the Golden Awards. The first one honors best presentation with the finalists being X-centric the cat, Isadora Furmann the screecher and Margaret Fowler the bird lady who takes the prize. She practically swallows up poor Ryan giving him a kiss and then quotes a very stupid poem in a baby voice. This was so stupid as I thought Sherman Pore who sang for his ladylove should have gotten this award but they ignored him on this finale.
Next up the top 6 guys of the season perform with the one and only Smokey Robinson. This was nicely done and props to Smokey for still sounding good after all these years.
More props from Ryan about looking for the best band which is a new show AI is developing. This might be a good one.
Blake Lewis and Doug E. Fresh gives us an overload of beat-boxing next which to be honest I would have preferred to see Blake perform alone.
Golden Idol 2 is the most original vocal with Nicholas Zitzman, Sandie Chevez and Sholandric Stallworth vying for the prize. Sholandric takes it and is further humiliated by singing Silent Night without a mic. He does have a big voice.
Talk of tickets on sale for the tour which I will not go to because I am rather disgusted with American Idol at this point.
Top 6 girls perform with Gladys Knight who also sounds in good voice. Loved the small showcase of Gladys, Melinda and Lakisha.
Tony Bennett performs next and shows us why he has been in the business so long. Maybe not a stellar performance but this guy is truly wonderful in my eyes. He gets a standing ovation, well deserved.
Best Buddies is Golden Idol 3. Jonathan and Kenneth beat out Amanda and Antonella and Ryan and Simon who bickered alot this year. What a slap in the face showing a real bush baby. I would sue for slander.
A true highlight is next with Melinda singing with The Winans. Loved this performance and once again this woman gives me chills. I can not wait to buy her music.
Jordin and Blake are awarded Ford mustangs after the entire group appears in the Ford commercial singing "Time After Time".
Carrie Underwood looking quite beautiful gives us the song "I'll Stand By You". I actually thought she sang it better doing Idol Gives Back but none-the-less still does well with it.
Chairman Clive Davis is introduced next to tell us why he continues to be so rich. He pimps us with the sales of Chris Daughtry and lo and behold he actually mentions Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee who have had hardly any promotion from this greedy son-of-a-bitch. In case you can not tell I have no respect for this guy. He also gives props to the judges, songwriters, and gives a special award to Carrie Underwood for going 6x platinum with her cd. She is very gracious as she thanks her fans and suggests we get back to the show. Thank goodness someone recognized what this show was suppose to be about. While Clive does mention Fantasia and Clay Aiken he says nothing about Ruben. This man shows no fairness at all.
Next up is the African Children's Choir who sing a song in their native language. Some very cute kids I'd say.
Next up is a huge build-up to once again hear Sanjaya Malakar butcher "You Really Got Me". The best part is Joe Perry of Aerosmith fame performs with him. At least he sounded good.
Green Day performs a John Lennon song "Working Class Hero" which started to bore me after awhile. I would have preferred to hear their music.
No respect is given by a introduction as next comes out Taylor Hicks to perform his new single "Heaven Knows". No doubt this will not do well because of course his management company have been no help up to now. I personally loved this performance and especially when he plays the harp.
Jordin and Ruben Studdard do a nice duet of "All I Need To Get By". Ruben looks like he is gaining again. Careful Ruben.
Bette Midler is taking over for Celine Dion in Las Vegas and sings one of her signature songs "Wind Beneath My Wings". I love Ms Bette but she did not do well with this performance.
Kelly Clarkson comes out with Joe Perry once again to scream the lyrics of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band next. What has happened to this girl's voice? Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood, and Ruben Studdard also sing songs from this cd. Looks like there will be a Beatles theme night next year. All of this seasons idols then perform one last song.
Finally the announcement that Jordin Sparks has won the title which was no surprise in my book. She ends the show with that awful song that will be her first single "This Is My Now" which I have no intention of buying.
I was so disappointed with this finale due to the fact that the idols of this season were not showcased enough I think. I did like some of the guest performances as mentioned above but overall this season's finale could not even compare to the greatness of last year's finale. Hopefully the jerks at American Idol will do a better job next year.
