Elimination Performances #2

WOW..

I apologize for taking so long to get this up, but job and family had me jumping... so on to my thoughts...

A very interesting evening.. I'll get my psycho babble out of the way first.

Please feel free to verbally spank me if you wish but I really felt like Jason and Tommy went out of their way to "defend" themselves to the performers last night.

1. Jason pointing out to Lukas that 15 years ago he was performing with the "best" gravely voiced frontman in the business. And touring on the "biggest" metal album of all times.
This is true.. but were are you now??!! On a freaking reality series trying to find a vocalist that will help put you back into the limelight. I'm guessing Echobrain just doesn't seem to be all the important of a choice nowadays does it.

2. Tommy pointing out to the performers that "your there...we're here"
Cut and paste from 'this is true' above.. and then add comments regarding Methods of Mayhem.

So..Performances..

I was happy with the fact that I picked the Bottom 3 but intrigued to find out what they would do to redeem themselves.
(My apologies...I picked 2 of the 3)

Jill - Bring Me To Life (Evanescence)

HOLY SH*T... did this little lady win me over! She did an amazing job and I was very impressed.
Unfortunately... she would be nothing more than another notch on Tommy's belt.
I really can't see a female performer, no matter how strong fronting a band with Tommy Lee. TROUBLE just waiting to happen.

Zayra - You Really Got Me (Kinks)
I'm still shaking my head at this and am at a loss for words.

Chris - If You Could Only See (Tonic)
This was probably the best performance he has given, but the guy is not a "seasoned" musician. He seems to be one of those guys that thought it would be cool to be in a band...
How he ended up on this show is beyond me.

The Final Choice..
Chris goes HOME!!

I really thought that Zayra's performance might have saved him for another week. But it seems that the guys just didn't see enough improvement to give him another shot.

Either way.. the herd is thinning and some of these performers really need to dig deep and find something to make themselves stand out!

BIG KUDO'S to Toby..
The guy is solid and I am looking forward to next week's show.

Hope this finds you all doing well...Thanks for taking time to read this.

See ya...

Performances #2

Well..

The 2nd set of performances where aired last night. My thoughts are as follows...

First, I really would like to know who is in charge of choosing songs for the 'artists' to choose from for their performances! I keep hearing Tommy, Jason and Gilby talking about..."Do you know anything about us or our former bands?" etc.

AND YET.. songs by groups like Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand end up on the choice board... WTF!?
So due to the sh*tty choice of music this week, I'm going to try and be kind to the performers.

STORM - Surrender (Cheap Trick)
A very strong vocalist who tends to stay within a specific vocal range. I feel she did a great job with the song and had fun with it.

RYAN - Jumpin Jack Flash (Rolling Stones)
Didn't like this guy from the beginning. He stunk up Iris and the crowd should have beat him severly last night for destroying this classic.

TOBY - Somebody Told Me (The Killers)
Another one of those songs choices that makes me wonder who the hell is in charge...anyhow... Toby did an amazing job with this song. I look forward to see what he does next week. Not sure I see him fronting a band like Supernova... but he is a talent to be reckoned with.

PATRICE - Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana)
Nice job. Still not quite sure what I think about her.

MAGNI - My Generation (The Who)
A STAR in Iceland! The country must be hard up for entertainment. Roger Daltry should sue over the use of the song.

ZAYRA - You Really Got Me (The Kinks)
Should have been re-titled..."I sing out of Key"

JENNY - Tainted Love (Soft Cell)
Not a bad re-working of the song. But she isn't cut out to front a rockband. She could pass for a groupie though.

JOSH - Arms Wide Open (Creed)
This guy has a TON OF TALENT! Just not the type needed for this band. I don't feel this was a great selection for him and really don't think he'll make the top 5.

DILANA - Ring Of Fire (Johnny Cash / June Carter)
I was VERY worried about his due to being a huge Johnny fan. Got to say that her version was original and something special. Looking forward to see what she pulls out next week.

DANA - Born To Be Wild (Steppenwolf)
Great voice...Wholesome Looks.... how the hell did American Idol miss her??

PHIL - If You Could Only See (Tonic)
The guy should be fronting an Incubus tribute band. Not Supernova.

JILL - Violet (Hole)
Did a great job with the song. But it also fell into the 'Tribute' vein.

CHRIS - Take Me Out (Franz Ferdinand)
I wish someone would take this guy out...!!

LUKAS - Don't Panic (Coldplay)
This was not a top notch performance for Lukas. But with such a weak selection of song choices... I still feel he is better suited for Supernova than any other performer on the show.

BOTTOM THREE:
Zayra
Phil
Chris

GOING HOME:
Zayra

See ya tomorrow after the Elimination Performances.

Elimination Night #1

WELL... I'm back and ready to rant.

First off...

This show is drawing a TON of criticism from fans and industry types alike. Good or bad...if people are watching then they are doing something right.

Let me say that I don't agree with these types of shows AT ALL!

American Idol / Rockstar / Making the Band / Making of a music Star etc. etc. etc.

They are all a slap in the face to the MILLIONS of musicians who struggle to be seen and heard every weekend in bars / nightclubs across the globe.

Aren't bands supposed to be brought together by a common love of music and performing? Aren't bands supposed to bicker and fight like the dysfunctional families that we can all relate to?

Aren't bands supposed to sweat it out in garages, basements and dank rehearsal rooms for months on end before performing??

Instead of being put up in mansions and 5 star hotels and pampered like a bunch of prima donna's. Plus it gives these morons false hope that this is the LIFE THAT THEY WILL LIVE!

So ATTENTION T.V. PRODUCERS... if you really want to impress the music community why not create a show called simply ROCKSTAR. Go out and find the 15 best unsigned bands every year and put them on T.V..

Put together a panel of PEERS, musicians who actually give a shit about talent and not FASHION or TRENDS.

Let them decide who deserves a break... because I don't trust the whole phone in and vote bullshit. That's because it then becomes a damned popularity contest... and we all know who wins those!!

Now back to our regularly scheduled rant...

The bottom 3 on this weeks installment is just proof positive that the producers of the show have surrounded the inevitable winner with a bunch of half assed karoake stars!!

All 3 of these bozo's should have been sent home. Streamline the process and just get to the best of the best. (I can't believe I actually used that term in respect to the remaining "musicians")

I would have sent Chris packing for sure.. the guy can't sing and when he uttered the line..."I wouldn't be here if I weren't one of the best singers in the world.."

JESUS...I just about launched my remote through my T.V.! I know of a handful of singers in here in Detroit that would put most of the contestants to shame. He was like Scott Stapp with Down's syndrome.

But it was Matt's decision to cover Duran Duran that cost him his spot. Let's call it "suicide by band"... he didn't have the heart or the talent to compete and he knew it. When he told the band what he had chosen I thought Newstead's head was gonna explode. FUNNY SH*T.

Sometime this week I'll give a quick rundown of the remaining singers and what I feel their strengths are.

So for now just remember that you heard it here FIRST. LUKAS ROSSI will be the last man standing!!

Supernova: The First Night

Sat down this evening and tuned in for the first night of ROCKSTAR: SUPERNOVA.

Tuned in and opened up my mind and my ears to take in the 15 hopefuls as they vie for the attention of the world and Tommy Lee's NEW Supergroup.

First off... I think it's time for Tommy to decide what type of musician he is. Metal / Hip Hop / Top 40?? WTF

I mean, it's great to embrace diversity, but he seems to have chased every format out there and missed the bandwagon everytime other than with Motley Crue.

But I digress....

I am going out on a BIG limb here and predicting the NEW Rockstar!

LUKAS ROSSI of Canada.

The guy has the looks, the charisma and the talent. Take the time and go to You Tube and punch in his name. Check out the video's from his former band Cleavage as well as his last project Rise Electric.

This kid is just a star waiting to happen and it is my opinion that Tommy, Gilby and Jason have already scouted this guy from the get go. And now are just using the show to get the band name out there.

This, once again just my opinion, is due to the fact that unlike INXS. They can't pull off a HUGE ARENA tour based on their past pedigree's!! None of these guys were the STARS of their respective bands.

I will give the band credit for working with Butch Walker as their producer. The guy is an AMAZING talent. Vocalist, musician, songwriter... the list goes on and on. If anyone can provide a hit song for a new group.. he is the man.

So I'll bid you a fond farewell. Tune in as I sit here and rant about whatever comes to mind.. Thanks for punching in....

Until next time.....
