Elimination Performances #2
WOW..
I apologize for taking so long to get this up, but job and family had me jumping... so on to my thoughts...
A very interesting evening.. I'll get my psycho babble out of the way first.
Please feel free to verbally spank me if you wish but I really felt like Jason and Tommy went out of their way to "defend" themselves to the performers last night.
1. Jason pointing out to Lukas that 15 years ago he was performing with the "best" gravely voiced frontman in the business. And touring on the "biggest" metal album of all times.
This is true.. but were are you now??!! On a freaking reality series trying to find a vocalist that will help put you back into the limelight. I'm guessing Echobrain just doesn't seem to be all the important of a choice nowadays does it.
2. Tommy pointing out to the performers that "your there...we're here"
Cut and paste from 'this is true' above.. and then add comments regarding Methods of Mayhem.
So..Performances..
I was happy with the fact that I picked the Bottom 3 but intrigued to find out what they would do to redeem themselves.
(My apologies...I picked 2 of the 3)
Jill - Bring Me To Life (Evanescence)
HOLY SH*T... did this little lady win me over! She did an amazing job and I was very impressed.
Unfortunately... she would be nothing more than another notch on Tommy's belt.
I really can't see a female performer, no matter how strong fronting a band with Tommy Lee. TROUBLE just waiting to happen.
Zayra - You Really Got Me (Kinks)
I'm still shaking my head at this and am at a loss for words.
Chris - If You Could Only See (Tonic)
This was probably the best performance he has given, but the guy is not a "seasoned" musician. He seems to be one of those guys that thought it would be cool to be in a band...
How he ended up on this show is beyond me.
The Final Choice..
Chris goes HOME!!
I really thought that Zayra's performance might have saved him for another week. But it seems that the guys just didn't see enough improvement to give him another shot.
Either way.. the herd is thinning and some of these performers really need to dig deep and find something to make themselves stand out!
BIG KUDO'S to Toby..
The guy is solid and I am looking forward to next week's show.
Hope this finds you all doing well...Thanks for taking time to read this.
See ya...

Well..
The 2nd set of performances where aired last night. My thoughts are as follows...
First, I really would like to know who is in charge of choosing songs for the 'artists' to choose from for their performances! I keep hearing Tommy, Jason and Gilby talking about..."Do you know anything about us or our former bands?" etc.
AND YET.. songs by groups like Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand end up on the choice board... WTF!?
So due to the sh*tty choice of music this week, I'm going to try and be kind to the performers.
STORM - Surrender (Cheap Trick)
A very strong vocalist who tends to stay within a specific vocal range. I feel she did a great job with the song and had fun with it.
RYAN - Jumpin Jack Flash (Rolling Stones)
Didn't like this guy from the beginning. He stunk up Iris and the crowd should have beat him severly last night for destroying this classic.
TOBY - Somebody Told Me (The Killers)
Another one of those songs choices that makes me wonder who the hell is in charge...anyhow... Toby did an amazing job with this song. I look forward to see what he does next week. Not sure I see him fronting a band like Supernova... but he is a talent to be reckoned with.
PATRICE - Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana)
Nice job. Still not quite sure what I think about her.
MAGNI - My Generation (The Who)
A STAR in Iceland! The country must be hard up for entertainment. Roger Daltry should sue over the use of the song.
ZAYRA - You Really Got Me (The Kinks)
Should have been re-titled..."I sing out of Key"
JENNY - Tainted Love (Soft Cell)
Not a bad re-working of the song. But she isn't cut out to front a rockband. She could pass for a groupie though.
JOSH - Arms Wide Open (Creed)
This guy has a TON OF TALENT! Just not the type needed for this band. I don't feel this was a great selection for him and really don't think he'll make the top 5.
DILANA - Ring Of Fire (Johnny Cash / June Carter)
I was VERY worried about his due to being a huge Johnny fan. Got to say that her version was original and something special. Looking forward to see what she pulls out next week.
DANA - Born To Be Wild (Steppenwolf)
Great voice...Wholesome Looks.... how the hell did American Idol miss her??
PHIL - If You Could Only See (Tonic)
The guy should be fronting an Incubus tribute band. Not Supernova.
JILL - Violet (Hole)
Did a great job with the song. But it also fell into the 'Tribute' vein.
CHRIS - Take Me Out (Franz Ferdinand)
I wish someone would take this guy out...!!
LUKAS - Don't Panic (Coldplay)
This was not a top notch performance for Lukas. But with such a weak selection of song choices... I still feel he is better suited for Supernova than any other performer on the show.
BOTTOM THREE:
Zayra
Phil
Chris
GOING HOME:
Zayra
See ya tomorrow after the Elimination Performances.
