Jordis Unga wowed us! Then, she wowed us again! Her voice was praised as ‘amazing’, ‘brilliant’, and ‘awesome’ by INXS and Dave Navarro.
Jordis Unga has a personna and style that says, “I am me. Take it or leave it.” You instantly give her respect for that self-awareness.
She is Jordis Unga. And, at the age of twenty-three, Jordis kicked ass all over Rock Star: INXS. For six weeks, she was the female front-runner. Week-after-week, she layed down amazing vocals on tracks including “Heart Shaped Box”, “Imagine” and “Baba O’Riley”.
Then... Jordis started to fade a bit. A lackluster “Layla” hit INXS as a tad sour and then some missed notes on “Dream On” made the public wonder a bit. Still, she stayed outside of the Bottom Three until last week when the votes didn’t come in. Then, Jordis heard Tim Farriss utter the journey-ending words, “You’re just not roit for our band, INXS.”
Rock Star Go Home caught up with Jordis earlier today to chat about the experience and her future.
REX: So I like to start my interviews with the really tough questions and then save the easy questions for the end. So, are you ready for some real toughies?
Jordis: Yes.
REX: Who's your favorite super hero?
Jordis: Ummm. I don't know. Just put Superman.
REX: Okay. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana or Bob Marley?
Jordis: Bob Marley. Natty Dread is my favorite.
REX: What musical act has been most inspirational to you? Why?
Jordis: Ummm. Etta James. She just has a dynamic voice.
REX: When did you know you could really, really, really sing?
Jordis: I was in middle school. Then a progression occurred. I went to music school. But, I really think I knew in middle school.
REX: I wonder if you are aware of all the speculation that many Rock Star: INXS fans had over the relationship between you and Marty. Some fans on the Idolforums.com website have referred to you as "Jorty." What’s that about?
Jordis: Ya know, I have no idea. We’re just friends.
REX: What was life like in the mansion?
Jordis: Life in the mansion was... Ummm. Interesting. Extreme. Chaotic. Yah, chaotic is most like it. And, stressful
REX: Really. Why?
Jordis: Well, there’s always something going. You’re always going, going, going.
REX: What was your favorite moment of this whole experience?
Jordis: It would have to be when I played with Camp Freddy at the House of Blues show. That was amazing. I mean, I was on stage with my musical idols – Dave Navarro, Cantrell, Stephen Perkins, Steve Jones, Slash, Scott Weiland... They were all there. It was amazing. A total honor and privilege to share a stage with them.
REX: Speaking of Perkins, he is Rock Star Go Home’s blogger.
Jordis: Really.
REX: Yah, in fact, he made a unique distinction in one of his blogs about you. He wrote that it seemed like you were more interested in staying in the competition rather than being the next lead for INXS. Is that a fair statement?
Jordis: I’m different than a lot of the other singers on the show. They knew they wanted to be the next front person for INXS. I didn’t. I came to the show to see if I wanted it... Ya know, if there was a fit. I mean, I am a relatively new INXS fan.
REX: What was your favorite performance on the show?
Jordis: Man Who Sold The World.
REX: Right on. And, which non-Unga performance impressed you the most so far?
Jordis: Everyone has had their moments on the show. I couldn’t pick one over the other.
REX: Got it. What are the three 3’s on your hand?
Jordis: It’s a dedication to a friend of mine.
REX: Cool. Last question. What’s next for you?
Jordis: I’ve got to be back in L.A. next week for the finale. Then, we’ll see. I’ve had some meetings but nothing, anything serious.
REX: Great thanks!
Jordis: No worries.
