Zayra Alvarez Ruleta - Self Biography

At first glance, Zayra Alvarez is so elegant you would think she walked straight off a fashion runaway in Paris. But when you really see and talk with the willowy brunette, you realize there’s an edge to that elegance. An intriguing, eclectic edge that’s marked her career ever since Zayra Alvarez was a teenager.
Zayra Alvarez was born in Puerto Rico to Luis Cruz and Ana Torres and grew up in the scenic town of Arroyo, along with her older sister, Liza. After vacationing in Dallas, Zayra Alvarez experienced the music scene there that was focused on the electric sound.

One day, Zayra Alvarpicked up the guitar and three months later she was performing acoustic nights in Dallas' Deep Ellum club district.
It wasn't long before Zayra landed a record deal with Brand Records, home to Blue October, The Nixons and SouthFM.

"Breaking Up Grey Skies" was Zayra Alvarez first recording - a gorgeously raw record performed all acoustic and full of heart. Her next move was to seriously embrace her Latin roots, resulting in the compelling album “Ruleta,” a breakthrough for the performer that boasted not only her enthralling vocals and tuneful guitar playing but her impressive craft as a songwriter as well.
Alvarez then hit the road with her band to promote the cds. Zayra Alvarez has toured with Los Lobos, Blue October, La Ley, Julieta Venegas, Circo, Yerba Buena, covering the West Coast, Texas and Florida.
Zayra currently lives in Richardson, Texas. Her birthday is December 11, 1978.
